The archaeological site of Saint Augustine corresponds to the church and the convent; the entrance is in the courtyard of the former seminary. A short descent leads to the cryptoportico, consisting of a large, vaulted rectangular area, which is flanked by a similar environment communicating with the first through arched passageways. Near the entrance are the remains of a semicircular exedra. In the area there is a third environment characterized by an exedra analogous to the first: from here, through a corridor, you arrive inside a radial structure consisting of dividing partitions that describe a quarter circle. The identification of the building, which stood above the cryptoportico, is still controversial: it could be a high podium, on which perhaps the important temple to the goddess Fortune or the famous Vitruvian basilica could have been erected.
