The archaeological finds from Via dell'Abbondanza have allowed the reconstruction of a precious view on Pesaro's history from the Augustan Age to the Renaissance. Here, on a minor cardo probably used as a pedestrian walkway, there is testimony to a noble domus which was richly decorated with colorful frescoes, stuccoes, and mosaics in white and black tiles. The house, built between the end of the 1st c. BC and the beginning of the 1st c. AD and inhabited until the beginning of the 3rd century AD, has a regular layout centered on the Entrance-Atrium-Peristyle axis. Facing out on the latter --a courtyard in which a good part of the portico remains-- were the environments destined for the private life of the family, such as the cubicula. The gradual abandonment of the house and of the road began in the 3rd century BC, and in the 5th c. AD a large thermal bath environment, not yet fully explored, was built here. Between the 8th and the 10th c. AD, part of the site was dedicated to the development of a cemetery area, mainly intended for children and teens. At the same time, remnants of medieval houses, probably made of perishable materials, were found. It was in the 16th century that the whole area was occupied by a ceramic workshop: here there was the ceramic baking kiln and the rooms for decanting and processing the clay. The archaeological area is furnished with some showcases where materials from various stages of life on the site are displayed: ceramics, lamps and objects of everyday life. The journey through the area is enriched by new multimedia devices that allow a 3D reconstruction of the ancient domus environments, thus giving the visitor an engaging experience.
